Al Qaeda Supporting Islamic Supremacist Group Holds First Public Conference In U.S.

(KNM)---Their goal is create and build a Fundamentalist Islamic empire across the world. They openly support Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. They cheered when thousands were slaughtered on September 11th, 2001 in three attacks on America's soil and had direct relationships with some of the leaders of those attacks. And they are holding their first open recruitment conference in the United States---just outside Chicago where the current president, Barack Obama, held office as a junior Senator.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is a global Sunni network with reported ties to confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Al Qaeda in Iraq's onetime leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. It has operated discreetly in the U.S. for decades and American representatives insist they are not supporters of terrorism are simply missionaries attempting to spread Islam in the United States peacefully. But national security, intelligence and law enforcement specialists insist otherwise.

"Hizb ut-Tahrir is one of the oldest, largest indoctrinating organizations for the ideology known as jihadism," Walid Phares, the director of the Future of Terrorism Project at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told FOX News. "The aim of this conference is to recruit within the Muslim community in America. The Middle East governments go after them, but in the U.S. they are protected, so having a base here is going to help their cells around the world," Phares said.

The group, meeting at a Hilton hotel just outside of Chicago, named the the title of its conference, "The Fall of Capitalism and the Rise of Islam," and expects American members as well as those from Britain, France and Spain to attend the event. The group's American officials point out that the United States Government has yet to include them on the nation's official terrorist watch list and that the State Department does not recognize it as a terror group. Opponets suggest that's a mere technicality and suggest the hotel and conference will be closely monitored by federal agents. "Maybe the feds are letting this occur with little fanfare because it's a great way to attain intelligence on the group, who are members and what they are saying," one intelligence specialist said.

Canada Gives Facebook 30 Days To Improve Website Privacy

(KNM)---It's the world's most popular social networking Website but the Canadian Government has so many concerns over what it calls laxed privacy management that it has given Facebook only 30 days to address and fix numerous gaps on its site which the government's Privacy Minister says is critical to protect users. The threats mostly come from third-party applications which have extensive access to users' accounts and information but charges were also made that the California-based company is practicing some questionable behavior itself.

The government investigated the Website over a year and discovered a wide variety of privacy issues which it believes leaves account holders easy victims to different types of identity theft. "We found some serious gaps," Canada's Privacy Minister Jennifer Stoddart said. Stoddart added that some of the more dangerous applications used by account holders include popular quizzes, horoscopes and games that are offered via developers not associated with the company. The fact that Facebook did very little security screening and did not have an approval process for third-party developers to share their applications on the Website also concerned investigators. "People love them (the applications) but behind them are some one million developers worldwide who then have access to users personal information," Stoddart said.

The issue was brought to the attention of the government by Ottawa University Law School's Internet Privacy and Public Interest Clinic. "Identity theft is obviously a concern because (developers) not only will get my name and my birthdate but they can even know where I went and what I did last night," said Harley Finkelstein, an official at the university's clinic. "They can accumulate a ton of data like where I went to school, where I live, if I have pets and the data mining is obviously a concern," Finkelstein added.

One of the more damning complaints of the Website directly is that Facebook refuses to delete all user information even after a user decides to delete an account and no longer use the Website. Critics have been vocal over leaked plans by the company to begin using targeted advertising as it strives to become more of a commerical and profitable venture. Observers believe the depth of user information the Website has easily lends itself to sell that information to advertisers who will then target users individually or by groups with ads on their respective account pages. Facebook has been near silent officially but did issue statements saying they have resolved a great deal of the Canadian complaints and are working to fix the rest. The Privacy Minister has commented that if Facebook does not meet certain goals, the matter could go to Federal Court.

One Million Children In Pakistan At Risk of Polio

(KNM)---A continuing power struggle and military conflict between the Pakistani government and Taliban-led pockets of insurgency may produce one of the largest comebacks of the dreaded disease Polio in the nation where as many as one million children could be affected due to lack of access to medicine, poor living conditions and exremist cultural laws by militant Muslims like the Taliban who will not permit or allow access to vaccinations.

Pakistan is one of only four nations in the world that still experience widespread outbreaks of the disease on an annual basis. Each year, before the start of the 'outbreak season' systematic vaccinations against Polio take place but medics and health administrators have been hampered by war-torn pockets of the nation where it is too dangerous to travel as well as facing Taliban leaders who proclaim it is against Islam to vaccinate children. Often, Taliban officials have declared that they believe the vaccinations are actually American or Israeli-led programs to harm children or somehow "control" the kids via the shots.

Dr Khalif Bile Mohamud, an official from the World Health Organization reports that he believes as many as one million children have not received vaccinations this year due to the unrest. Pakistan had been making progress in fighting the disease over recent years--something which Dr. Mohamud says has been lost. "Pakistan was the country closest to interrupting the virus (in the region). Now we have a challenge - the conflict will create a cluster of children, a cohort, who are susceptible to the virus," he explained. Health officials in Pakistan, throughout the region and at the United Nations fear the natural "firewall" that had been built to slowly decrease the spread of Polio over the years will be lost this year and that nation may face a new era of significant growth of the disease.

New Jersey Residents Close To Winning Case To Secede from Town

(KNM)---A group of residents who all reside on one street in the town of Toms River, New Jersey are close to legally realizing their wish to secede from the town and join neighboring Lavallette. If they win, it'll be a rare case of private citizens successfully defeating government in the heavily-regulated and government-heavy Garden State and municipalities across the state are not happy and concered that the case may inspire others.

Bay Beach Way is a private street whose residents argue has been continually ignored for years by Toms River. They say that during the winter their street is last to get plowed, often leaving large snowdrifts that cover cars and block the road. The citizens claim services they pay taxes for are always hard to receive as well and point out that garbage pickup is irregular and attempting to get any emergency services to the street is difficult too. Yet, they can take a short glance across their street to the neighboring town and see plowed streets, sanitation and other public services right before their eyes.  In addition, the homeowners say that even the United States Postal Service officially recognizes them as living in Lavallette. People on the street also receive water, electicity and even cable television from Lavallette.

After six years of legal manuevers by the town and Bay Beach Way residents, the legal move by the homeowners to officially have their street leave Toms River and become a part of Lavallette seems close to reality. Lavallette has already passed an informal measure to welcome the street into its borders and a state appeals court upheld a ruling that decided the citizens of the street are in their rights to secede from Toms River, which the court ruled was wrong when it declared the homeowners had no legal right to leave the town.

Unless Toms River decides to take the case to State Supreme Court on appeal, the only obstacle in the way for Bay Beach Residents to officially become a part of Lavallette is for the town to pass an official and legal resolution to absorb the street. As expected, Toms River officials as well as lawyers for other towns and lobbyist groups representing municipalities in the state argue the legal win by homeowners should not be allowed and claim the residents are really only motivated by the lower taxes in Lavallette. Others argue the case could open a Pandora's Box of similar lawsuits from angry residents wanting to secede from their towns or cities too. The League of Municipalities criticised the move and said angry residents should go through the political process to get things done--which the other side argues it what is exactly wrong since the 'political process' did not work and Toms River did nothing to change the situation.

Number of Murdered Journalists In Russina Continues To Grow

(KNM)---He was Editor-In-Chief of a Russian monthly magazine called Corruption and Crime and as the name suggests, the magazine routinely offered readers investigations, commentaries, rumors and other material all focused on exposing those in power. Now Yaroslav Yaroshenko, age 63,  is dead and his mysterious demise is not so much shocking anymore as it is troubling in a nation where the murders or suspicious of deaths of journalists have become almost routine news. In fact, Russia is the third-deadliest country for reporters and editors in the world. Yaroshenko's attack took place in Rostov, situated in the south of the nation.

Yaroshenko, it is believed, was the victim of a vicious attack which resulted in serious head injuries as he walked in the exit of his apartment building. The top editor of the magazine suffered severe trauma to the head and was in a coma for more than a week but miraculously emerged from it and recovered to a point that he was allowed to go home and continue therapy. Yaroshenko suddenly relapsed on June 30th and his condition quickly worsened until he passed away. Reports about the incident have claimed Yaroshenko believed he was being stalked by someone from the magazine's offices and that the assailant was the same person.

The editor had been investigating and reporting on corruption charges involving Rostov's police department, local elected officials and prosecutor's office when he was attacked. The magazine's deputy editor was the target of an attack in 2007. Yaroshenko's staff is pulling resources to hold its own investigation and has crticised the Rostov local police and officials for refusing to investigate the attack. The local police say they have a lack of evidence that Yaroshenko was attacked. Observers claim its yet another example of a corrupt government and police force and refute police attempts to explain Yaroshenko's fatal injuries were the result of a simple fall. Medics and friends of the editor say the severe nature of the injuries prove the editor did not simply fall and hurt himself. The magazine's future is uncertain and it is not expected to publish another issue this summer and may return in the fall.

Report: India's Home To Most Domestic Terror Groups

(KNM)---India's Ministry of Home Affairs announced it has added a 34th group to its list of domestic terrorist organizations making the nation the leader in the dubious distinction of hosting the most terror-related groups officially recognized by a government. The latest group was a Maoist organization listed on the nation's Unlawful Activities Act list which was created to name terrorist organizations, monitor them and cease their activity. Al Qaida is also on the list as having operations in India.

The Maoist group joined ranks with Ulfa and SIMI and lesser known entities such as Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council of Meghalaya, Kanglei Yaol Kanba Lup of Manipur and Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj, which though virtually unheard of are considered deadly enough by the government to be designated as terrorist organisations. Of the seven transnational terror groups, only two ?al-Qaida and LTTE ? are truly global names. The other five are Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Harkatul Mujahideen, Al Badr, Jamat-ul-Mujahid and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) which are all Pakistan based terror outfits fighting Indian security forces in Kashmir.

"I am not surprised that we have so many local terror groups," said Prakash Singh, former director-general of Border Security Force (BSF). "Since Independence we have seen the rise of a new terrorist movement in every decade, whether it be the Naxals, militants in Punjab, terrorists in the North East or in J&K. It is failure of governance that has led to this situation," Singh said.

Similar lists run into more than 40 in both the U.S. and Canada but includes only international names such as Hezbollah, Hamas, FARC, Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional, Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) etc ? none of which operate directly on their soil.

Killer Rapist Sells Deeds On Internet

(KNM)---He viciously raped and murdered three teenagers. One was strangled in a stairwell of a building and left to die on a cold exit floor (she was 18); another was a neighbor who was murdered in the building they lived in (she was 13) and another was murdered and then set on fire, she was 19. The young women crossed paths of a ruthless murderer who told his victims they were "lucky" to be raped by someone as good-looking as he was.

Arohn Kee, a 35 year-old black male who committed his crimes in the East Harlem section of Manhattan for a decade until he was caught in Miami, is now selling various items on the internet related to his crimes including 20 "rape cards" handwritten by Kee himself that offers details of his crimes. The cards are being sold on various Web sites for about $20 each. In addition, a tee-shirt worn by Kee in prison is being sold on the Web for about $100 and is autographed by the killer as is a color mugshot. Other items Kee has used while serving his life-term in prison is also being sold on sites that proclaim the viciousness of Kee's murders and boast his signatures are in "bloody red ink" and his cards offer details of "violent sex".

Officials of the Attica State Prison in New York near Buffalo claim they were not aware of Kee's online money-making ventures and said they would investigate whether Kee is violating laws that prohibit running businesses from prison and using the mail to make a profit. The state's Crime Victims Board may attempt to seize any money made from the items. Web sites selling various items related to serial killers and other types of criminals have sprouted on the internet hawking all sorts of items ranging from artwork, photos and clothing to poetry and "playing cards" that provide statistics on the criminal as if they were athletes. The popular site E-Bay once permitted the selling of these types of items but stopped the practice after pressure from victims' rights advocates and politicians. Kee could face additional penalities if found guilty of violating laws.

Chavez Continues Actions Against U.S. Companies; Bans Coca-Cola Product

(KNM)---The Venezuelan government, controlled by quasi-dictator Hugo Chavez, continued a recent spate of hostile actions against American businesses or interests by ordering all "Coke Zero" soft drinks banned from the nation. The government instructed the immediate halt of the product and cited a threat to the health of citizens as the reason for the action. The government refused to provide media any specific health concerns about the relatively new drink from Atlanta-based Coca-Cola but stressed the drink was dangerous to the health of Venezuelans.

The move against Coca-Cola comes after the government also issued strong threats to American pharma giant Pfizer that it would end the company's access to the Venezuelan market or impose sanctions againt the company and forcibly took control of several factories belonging to American food giant Cargill which also operates in the country. The government has yet to target numerous American-based fast food chains or retailers that operate in the country.

The move against Coke Zero could be traced to Coca-Cola's labor tensions in the country last year when laid-off workers paraded through the streets demanding back-pay and blocked access to Coke's factories. The Venezuelan Coke Zero is managed and operated by Coca-Cola Femsa of Mexico.

Libya & Italy Attempt To Grow Closer

(KNM)---Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi will make his first visit to Italy since 1969 when he led the movement to overthrow King Idris and began his long dictatorship of the African nation which has had sour and tense relations with Rome over the years as it expelled thousands of Italians from the country and forcibly took control of Italian business concerns. The trip is an official state visit and will include meetings and negotiations with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Gaddafi will be staying at the Villa Doria Pamphili, a mansion used for government receptions.

This latest meeting between the two heads of nations is another signal that the two countries are moving forward in an attempt to bury long-simmering tensions and create a political as well as economic alliance. Talks have accelerated ever since Berlusconi flew to Libya last year to offer an official apology for Italy's colonial era-control over the nation and paid some $3 billion in compensation. Observers contend Italy's gesture was economically-motivated since Libya provides Italy with more than 25 percent of its oil and is a major investor in Fiat who is looking to invest more money in Italian businesses and government concers.

Observers say that Berlusconi also has another objective: continue to decrease of illegal immigration from Libya and increase Libya's participation in patrolling the waters between the two countries to intercept migrant boats. In the past, Italy has accused Libya of intentionally enabling the flood of thousands from its shores as a way to hurt Rome financially. Recently, Libya had reversed course and is actively accepting migrants back.

Libya was occupied by Italy in 1911 and made an Italian colony until 1943. Libya holds strong grievances against Italy over the thousands of Libyans killed or put in concentration camps under Italian rule. Italy still resents the expulsion of 20,000 Italians who had settled in Libya when Gaddafi had seized power.

Numerous protests will be held against the Libyan dictator including a large demonstration at Rome University.

Unexplained Flight Incidents Connected?

(KNM)---Reports from Texas of a Continental Airlines Express Flight encountering an unidentified object that came close to striking the plane has the Federal Aviation Authority scrambling to the Lone Star State to determine what was the source for the latest in a string of weird occurances over the past several months. Behind the scenes, sources tell KNM that the FAA is concerned that chatter on the internet among flight buffs, conspiracy theorists and bloggers that the events are connected in some way may be true. In addition, KNM is told that the FAA has contacted several federal law enforcement and security agencies over the matter because there is a growing fear that some of the incidents may be related to terrorism.

It's an unthinkable idea that is unspeakable in government circles: the notion that terror cells are residing within the United States and are equipped with weapons, including surface-to-air missiles, to bring down airplanes over the skies of America in the latest salvo in a "holy war" against the country. Numerous unexplained incidents across the country concerning commuter flights along with large airliners have some wondering if the threat is real and testing is being done before an actual attack occurs.

One of the most prominent incidents that has recently taken place occured around Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. In that case, two airliners--both Continental flights--taking off at night reported back to air traffic controllers that green lasers were "tracking" them about four miles out from the runway. The pilots stressed that the lasers were not fixed lights and were being managed so that the beams traced the plane's flight.

In the Texas incident, a pilot reported he spotted something that appeared to be "a rocket or missile" that flew about 150 feet under the plane several miles away from Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. A similar incident concerning yet another Continental plane took place in roughly the same area in May of 2008.

The sensitivity to terrorism was heightened after the Texas incident when it was revealed Air France had received a bomb threat claiming that one of its flights would be attacked on a route from South America to Paris. Soonafter, an Air France plane going from Brazil to Paris mysteriously went down into the Atlantic Ocean. It is not believed at this time terrorism was behind the plane's demise. Officials also point that the bomb threat specifically mentioned a plane flying from Argentina would be attacked.

A spate of odd fatal crashes of commuter planes around the country has also caused chatter on the Web. Several short-distance regional commuter flights met tragic ends with most of them near airports. To date, the most notorious incident involved another Continental flight from Newark to Buffalo during which, it seems the plane literally lost power and dropped out of the sky. The FAA is still investigating the incident and Congressional hearings have been held about the crash. Although icy conditions and suspect pilot training are the leading theories for the crash, investigators are disturbed by a number of things that are inexplicable.

The uncanny number of incidents with Continental Airlines has not been explained either. Some say it's a mere coincidence of stringing together totally separate and unconnected events while other theorize it may not be terrorists but disgruntled employees at work.

Russian News Agency Says China Nearing Troops To U.S. Border

(KNM)---Pravda, once the all-powerful official news agency of the Communist Soviet Union, is reporting that China is making moves to gain influence in South America and begin expanding its military presence around the world by stationing troops "near the United States border" with specific mention of Brazil.

On the fact the President of Brazil traveled to China recently, Pravda stated, "It is not ruled out that China may eventually strengthen its influence near the borders of the United States and even set up Chinese army bases in the region." The report continued, "China has been trying to find as many allies and followers as possible on remote continents. The Chinese government realizes that it may eventually become the prime enemy for the Western world."

Brazil and China established their strategic partnership in 1993. China has become the largest consumer of Brazilian goods. The Brazilian president stated prior to his visit to China that the volume of the trade turnover between the two countries could increase eleven times.

Oklahoma Stops Selective Abortions

(KNM)---Oklahoma became the third state in America to ban the practice of aborting fetuses based on sex. The trend, similar to that in China where females are routinely aborted in favor of boys, requires physicians who perform abortions to report certain information to the state's Department of Health, including the mother's age' marital status, education level, number of prior pregnancies, reason for the abortion, method of abortion, method of payment, type of medical health insurance coverage and relationship with the father, as well as the cost of the abortion and whether an ultrasound was given. Pennsylvania and Illinois are the only states with similar laws.

Studies show that in the United States as in other parts of the world, females are aborted at a higer rate than males and also indicate Asian immigrants continue the practice of aborting females in America in preference to males. "It is unfortunate, even in this enlightened age of women, that many cultures here and abroad favor males over females. All over the world, millions of females are missing due to sex selection abortions," Mary Spaulding Balch of the National Right to Life Committee said. "We congratulate Oklahoma for taking this courageous stand against this invidious discrimination against women by banning the practice of sex selection abortions in Oklahoma."

Critics complain that the law, scheduled to take effect in 2011, places too many burdens on women and physicans and invades privacy. They also contend the bill does not consider victims of crime. Supporters of the law deny the charges and say the bill does not supercede existing bills that concern rape or incest and that the main goal of the law was to stop the 'selective abortion' practice and reduce the overall number of abortions in the state. An appeal by pro-abortionists and other groups is possible.

New Breed of Rats Show Immunity To Poison

(KNM)--- It's something out of a horror movie: a new breed of rat, multiplying and resistant to every poison thrown at them. But, it's real.

Britain is hurrying to find a solution for a growing threat to public health as more and more colonies of rats are discovered immune to established poisons. Professor Robert Smith at the University of Huddersfield says genetic mutations have produced a new breed of "super rat" with DNA that protects the vermin from standard toxins. A growing number of exterminators are finding larger colonies of the vermin and reporting that they have used every poison available to no avail. Tests have revealed that they boast an entirely new strand of DNA that wards off attacks from pesticides.

Swindon in Wiltshire is the latest town to suffer an infestation, with exterminators reporting a 500 per cent increase in the rodents. Many are turning to traps, air rifles and even dogs in an effort to keep the populations under control. Professor Smith said, "there are mutations and changes in their DNA that alter the ability of rats to deal with these poisons. It appears to be moving west and has now been located in Swindon and Bristol. It is a warning of things to come."

There are now thought to be around 80 million rats in Britain, a rise of more than 200 per cent since 2007. The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) is calling go the Government to approve more powerful pesticides for use outdoors, warning of a threat to public health if rat numbers swell over the summer.

IAEA Chief Warns of Proliferation of 'Virtual Nuclear' States

(KNM)---The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency issued a dire and blunt warning during a European media tour that he believes the world will be facing a critical danger from 'virtual nuclear' nations intent on building their own arsenal of nuclear weapons for political and military purposes.

Mohamed ElBaradei said he believed 10 to 20 countries will likely soon develop the capacity to build nuclear weapons unless major powers take steps to disarm them and stated that while they would likely stop short of assembling a weapon in order to be  technically compliant with the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT), they could be within a couple of months of deploying and using a nuclear bomb.

"This is the phenomenon we see now and what people worry about in Iran. And this phenomenon goes much beyond Iran," said ElBaradei. He added: "We still live in a world where if you have nuclear weapons, you are buying power, you are buying insurance against attack. That is not lost on those who do not have nuclear weapons, particularly in [conflict] regions." ElBaradei expressed most concern about the spread of nuclear technology in the Middle East, which he said was a "ticking bomb".

ElBaradei has suggested that nuclear weapons states bore blame for other countries seeking such arms and called for those nations with nuclear aresenals to scrap them as a solution to the problem. The IAEA chief complained that his call for nations who are attempting to gain nuclear to cease are pointless because they see the United States, Russia, Pakistan and Israel, among others, building and modernizing their own nuclear aresenals.

Saudi Activists Call for End To Royal Family Absolute Power

(KNM)---Vocal Saudi activists have submitted formal petitions for the country to become a constitutional monarchy such as Britain and end the total power the royal Saudi family has over the government and all aspects of life in the Kingdom.

In a petition sent to King Abdullah and other leaders, the 77 rights activists and lawyers called for the creation of an elected parliament and for a non-royal prime minister to run the government. The letter fell short of demanding a constitutional monarchy, calls for which in 2003-2004 led to the arrest of activists.

"Constructional monarchy" is a seldom-used term in which the sovereign is the head of state but the government is actually led by a prime minister. In the Saudi absolute monarchy, King Abdullah is prime minister while his half-brothers Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz and Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz are deputy premiers.

The calls for political reform came as part of a letter dated Wednesday criticising the opening of secret tribunals for nearly 1,000 militants, mostly arrested in the wake of a 2003-2005 Al-Qaeda linked campaign of attacks. The activists also called for separating the currently closely-entwined executive, judicial and legislative branches of government. A legislative Shura council is wholly appointed by the king and has few powers to check other institutions, though King Abdullah has increasingly allowed it to investigate the policies and operations of various ministries.

Saudi Arabia held its first election in recent memory in 2005, for 178 municipal councils. A new round was expected this year but until now no announcement has been made. On the trials of 991 alleged militants, the activists said they were taking place in secret courts and they questioned any verdicts reached away from public scrutiny. "We are calling for fair and public trials, otherwise it is impossible to mete out justice," they wrote. The secrecy of the trials, they argued in the petition, "will grant the government carte blanche to pass tough verdicts against helpless and powerless defendants." The government has neither confirmed nor denied that the trials have even taken place.

Outsourcing to India Continues Grow Amid Global Downturn

(KNM)--While the United States and much of the world is facing one of the worst economic climates in generations, India is quietly performing better than most as companies from around the world continue to set-up or expand operations in the nation and deepen their outsourcing of jobs to a growing and cost-effective Indian workforce. These companies, which earlier preferred only local IT vendors are now shifting their needs to Indian players like Wipro, Cognizant, Mindtree, Syntel and WNS. The Economic Times of India  reports Mumbai-based BPO WNS recently secured a five year finance and accounting deal from a large entertainment company in the U.S. In the last two quarters, WNS has got at least four contracts from first time outsourcers in the BPO space.

Mid-sized IT firm Mindtree too has seen more deals coming from the first time outsourcers in the US and Europe despite a financial turmoil in these regions. It has signed four such deals in the banking, manufacturing, travel and transport and telecom segments. "We have seen a fairly good traction across the US and Europe. The companies start by outsourcing work related to payroll and insurance claims. Most of these are fixed priced contracts," said Mindtree VP Ramesh Arun.

Niece of Martin Luther King Jr. Says Uncle Would Be A Republican Today

(KNM)--Dr.Alveda C. King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is crying foul over what she believes has been an intentional ignoring of a recent column she wrote that proclaims if her uncle were alive today, he would be a Republican.  Alveda also claims that her grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or 'Daddy King', as she calls him,  was a Republican. History that has been forgotten or revised along with a complicity liberal media in the bag for the Democrat Party, she insinuates, has blurred the reality of her uncles true politics.

Alveda recalls how, with the promise of strident support from then-candidate John Kennedy, Senior King helped secure a large voting block of blacks for the Massachusetts senator. "Daddy King influenced a reported 100,000 black voters to cast previously Republican votes for Senator Kennedy even though Kennedy had voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Law. Mrs. King had appealed to Kennedy and Nixon to help her husband, and Nixon who had voted for the 1957 Civil Rights Law did not respond. At the urging of his advisors, Kennedy made a politically calculated phone call to Mrs. King, who was pregnant at the time, bringing the attention of the nation to Dr. King's plight."

Alveda adds, "Moved by Mrs. King's gratitude for Senator Kennedy's intervention, Daddy King was very grateful to Senator Kennedy for his assistance in rescuing Dr. King, Jr. from a life threatening jail encounter. This experience led to a black exodus from the Republican Party."  The result, according to King's niece in her column, was also that the majority of blacks quickly forgot that the Republican Party was one born to fight slavery and that the Democratic Party at the time of Senator Kennedy's election was still "the pary of the Ku Klux Klan."

The niece of Dr. King Jr. adds, "Banished from memory was the fact that the Democratic Party fought to keep blacks in slavery and in 1894 overturned the civil rights laws of the 1860's that had been passed by Republicans, after the Republicans also amended the Constitution to  grant blacks freedom, citizenship and the right to vote. Forgotten was the fact that it was the Republicans who started the HBCU's and the NAACP to stop the Democrats from lynching blacks. Into the dust bin of history was tossed the fact that it was the Republicans led by Republican Senator Everett Dirksen who pushed to pass the civil rights laws in 1957, 1960, 1964, 1965 and1968."

Alveda writes, "Meanwhile Democrats in Congress were still fighting to prevent the passage of new civil rights laws that would overturn those discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws that had been enacted by Democrats in the South. There would have been nol aw for President Lyndon Johnson to sign in 1964 had it not been for the Republicans breaking the Democrats? filibuster of the law. No one batted an eye when President Kennedy opposed the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King. Hardly a ripple of protest was uttered when President Kennedy, through his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated on suspicion of being a Communist."

Dr. King's niece then reminds readers the actions of Democrat officials in the South:

"Little attention was paid to the fact that it was a Democrat, Public Safety Commissioner Eugene ?Bull? Conner, who in 1963 turned dogs and fire hoses on Dr. King and other civil rights protestors. No one noted that it was a Democrat, Georgia Governor Lester Maddox, who waved ax handles to stop blacks from patronizing his restaurant.  Nor was heed paid to the fact that it was a Democrat,  Alabama Governor George Wallace, who stood in front of the Alabama schoolhouse in 1963 and thundered: "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever." None of those racist Democrats became Republicans."

She adds, "During this time of turmoil, completely forgotten was the fact that it was Democrat Arkansas Governor Orville Faubus who in 1954 had blocked desegregation of a Little Rock public school. To their eternal shame, the chief opponents  of the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act were Democrats Senators Sam Ervin, Albert Gore, Sr. and Robert Byrd, aformer Klansman. All of the racist Democrats that Dr. King was fighting remained Democrats until the dayt hey died. How can anyone today think that Dr. King, my uncle, would have joined the party of the KKK?"

King, in her essay published in "The Black Republican" Magazine, goes on to detail how the Democratic Party increasingly became the party of atheists, the banning of prayer in school, dysfunctional programs like Welfare and the party of no-rules abortions---all things, she says her uncle would be deeply oppossed to today.

Alveda King's essay has been largely ignored by the mainstream media and its overwhelmingly pro-Democrat ranks. King and Black Republican groups have stressed her opinion is being silenced by a pro-Democrat media hellbent on getting Senator Barack Obama elected. Obama, a deep supporter of abortion rights as is the party he represents, according to King, is polar opposite of what her uncle stood for in his plights.

Oh, God, what would Martin Luther King, Jr., who dreamed of having his four children judged by the content of their characters, not just the color of their skin, do if he'd lived to see the contents of thousands of children's skulls emptied into the bottomless caverns of the abortionists pits?  What would he say about the rivers of blood of the children cut down in gang wars and other dark deeds?
